OUR FOOD CHANGE PROJECT
Nourishing the Future
In July 2024, Sharing Hearts in Nepal launched a vital new initiative to improve the daily nutrition of 150 young boys living at the Perme T’sal monastery. Traditionally, dinner on three nights each week consisted of thukpa, a flour-based noodle soup with little to no protein or vegetables. Though our organization had long provided eggs to supplement the boys’ diets, we recognized the urgent need for more balanced nutrition.
With generous donations and the Jana Allday Fund, we began working toward the goal of adding vegetables and paneer to their meals. However, one major challenge was a shortage of kitchen staff. At the monastery’s request, our organization hired a full-time cook, making it possible to serve nutritious side dishes alongside thukpa on the designated days.
After four months of this new food program, the monastery’s resident nurse reported remarkable improvements in the boys’ health: a significant drop in seasonal illnesses such as flu, red or itchy eyes, and chickenpox, and no cases of dysentery, scabies, or skin disease—once common ailments among the boys. The children are now not only healthier but genuinely happier with their meals.
We’re deeply grateful to all who donated, encouraged, and supported this project, as well as to the monastery staff who helped make it a success. Together, we are nourishing bodies, strengthening immune systems, and helping these children grow with vitality and joy.
