Helping Meet Ongoing Needs at Pema T’sal Sakya Monastery

While Pema T’sal Sakya Monastery provides a nurturing environment for its students, there are still important needs that remain unmet.

Current areas where support can make a difference include:

Eggs

Due to the impact of COVID-19, economic hardship, and severe flooding in rural Nepal, Pema T’sal Monastery recently welcomed 20 additional children from a nearby temple that was forced to close. As a result, the monastery’s egg budget is stretched thin, and additional support is needed to provide nutritious meals for all the boys.

Clothing

The boys are in urgent need of warm clothing to protect them from the cold Himalayan air. Shoes are also a priority, as the boys quickly outgrow their footwear.

Warm Blankets

Both the newly arrived children and the college-aged students still need warm blankets to stay safe and comfortable during the colder months.

Medical Supplies

The monastery needs basic medical supplies, including first aid kits, hygiene products, and common over-the-counter medicines like Tylenol, analgesics, and fever reducers to care for the boys in emergencies.

Sponsor a Child

While some of the boys are sponsored, many of the newest arrivals are still waiting for sponsors. Sponsorships help cover food, education, and daily living expenses. Sponsors and children exchange photos and letters, with opportunities to send birthday or holiday gifts. Sponsoring a child costs $500 per year and makes a lasting impact.

Monastery Repairs

The main monastery building, now over twenty years old, is suffering from significant mold infestation. Funds are needed for mold remediation and repainting to improve living conditions. Health concerns such as coughing, wheezing, skin irritation, and congestion among the boys may be linked to mold exposure in the dormitories and classrooms.
